How Long Has Your Equipment Lasted?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had ehiem filters since the 90,s 2217, 2250, 2260 and all I ever replaced was the impeller my choice not the filters. FANTASTIC FILTERS:headbang2

Im also getting back into the hobby now, but have been using MARATHON canisters and they seem to work pretty fine. I must admit, after reading these posts Im thinking of getting a EHEIM instead.

I agree with the comments on aquaclear and eheim filters. Very reliable. I wouldn't use anything else.

Reliable stuff in my experience:
AquaClear 500, 300
Eheim 2217, 2213 canister filters
Ebo-jager heaters
All-glass fluorescent light fixtures and light bulbs

Not so reliable:
Hydor Theo heaters (bought these when ebo-jagers weren't available from Pet Solutions, and they all ran 5-10 degree too hot. terrible)

i have a eheim 2034 that has been running since 1987. It always makes me laugh how people say how eheims are over priced and so on meanwhile the one common thread in this post is how many eheims are mentioned. yes I am a major eheim fanatic but if i figured out how many filters i would have gone through on that tank of lesser priced brands i am way ahead with the higher initial price of the eheim.

I have

a late 1960's Eheim cannister that still works, but is missing parts.

an old green Ebo Jager with the rubber covered temp adjusting dial that still works, but I've retired and replaced with a new Eheim Jager.

a 7 year old Eheim 2250

a 5 year old Eheim Liberty 200

pff i hate ehiem 2213s
i have one priming is so hard

RIO

those pumps are tough

my 2500 lasted 18 years before it burned out

i forgot to top off my wet-dry :(

True, it's hard to beat Rio pumps for reliability and price.

Fluval No.4 purchased about 1987, still running strong replaced impeller once.

A mate has two of them still going since 1990, he reckons best performance for $$ filters he's ever bought....
