anybody got any personal experience with this sort of thing? if i go by the monster rules of a tank that is x4 L and x1.5 W then a 10 gallon should be just about right (maybe lacking a few inches in length). so would only one be ok n there or can i get more? i already have a 5incher so its almost full grown.

loads there tiny never really grow an never raelly move much at all

from my experence there very boring fish to keep, but you may get a different one that i had

Thay get around 5'' so a 10 gallon could be a grow out for one but you couldn't keep them in a 10 for life

They Barely move during the day but are usually pretty active when all the lights are off

i know this is a long reply, but whatever, its all informative lol.

ok so what length x width tank should i get to keep them in for life? smallest please, im downsizing right now and getting rid of fish because college is complicating this hobby for me and iv got to keep it small. i already have 4 betta tanks and a community tank, my bichirs and a peacock eel are having to go; so now im just trying to see if i can accommodate a small banjo only tank as well. if not ill just stick the one banjo i have now back in the community and save that dream for later.

lets treat it like a monster and go with monster rules, tank W x L should be 1.5xW X 4xL of the adult fish, so a 5" fishie would get a 20" L x 8" W tank right? well a 10 gallon almost meets that. its 18"L x 10"W. if those 2" on length really matter i can build a tank to specs. iv already got the silicone i just need to find a way to brace it. of course thats for one fish, what about 3? or 5? a 20 long might be a bit much, heck a 15gallon is pushing it but i might be able to pull it off. however im serious when i say a ten gallons is really about my limit at this time. thoughts?

oh and yes, this fish does not like to come out during the day. moonlighting will be a must, thats been the plan all along.

thay can get 6"
are you really going to keep it in a 10gal for life (20+ year)?
10gal are for cory and guppies

they are not active fish, if you have good filtration and water changes, you can keep one in there for life

I agree with this, you cannot keep them in a 10gal for life. At least a 33gal.

Banjo Cats are very inactive and they seen to average 4" I had a group of 6 in a 20g once for a few year. I think you can get away with 3 for a 10g.

well no, this wolnt be for life. just while im in college. iv got to save as much space as possible for now. later, yes, i can put them in a much bigger tank... and i want to. its just for the time being. so i think ill go with 3 and see how it goes. the next 2 will probably be babies, tiny little buggars. theyll grow up eventually but not right away. and i think itll be cute watching my big one swimming around with two little duckling types cruising alongside. funny how i got contradicting replys in every other message. how many of yall have actually kept these fish?
