How much will a 240 gallon aquarium weigh

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a little over a ton, roughly 2200 lb

dont forget to include the stand!!!

right, plus the stand weight, fish weight, rocks weight, lid weight...

If you google how much does a gallon of water weigh you get this: A US gallon of fresh water at 4 degrees C weighs 8.34 pounds. An imperial gallon at 62deg F (old UK system) weighs 10 pounds.

240 x 8.34 = 2001.6lbs+gravel+tank+lid+rocks+fish+stand+all accessories

So your answers is a ton plus some!!!!!!!!!!!

quite a bit lol, hope you weren;t planning on having that on a 2nd floor (unless reinforced) :)

Quite a bit more in my opinion.

240 x 8.34 = 2001.6
A 120 empty weighs 215 lbs., so figure 430 give or take for a 240 (a 180 weighs 338)
200 lbs. of sand

that's 2630 lbs. without stand, top, fish, accessories.

Guessing that the stand, top, fish, and accessories won't be more than 370 lbs. That puts you at 3000 lbs.

Figures a 8'x2' configuration that gives you 16 sq. ft.

3000 / 16 = 187.5

Get 15 of your closest friends and yourself and crowd into an 8'x2' area where you want to put the tank. This should give you an idea of what the floor will do.

probably closer to 3,000 lbs with the weight of the tank, water, rocks and such

Either way, it's alot of weight. Just make sure you are supported. If you have a basement and are putting the tank on the first floor, you can get two or four floor jacks and a couple of four x fours and you will be fine.
