I am not expert in armatus, but I feel that arnatus are more rounded at the jaw and at some angle "hunch-back" or bulging upwards(for both head and back almost joint together). Also can be duller in textile but some still has it dull metallic shines.
Scombs are shiny and smooth all the way and more spander in it'd shape
Channa, anymore such a chance to gi huntinf=g for these fishes pm me.

have you seen those baby armatus that rich brought in?
they were pretty shiny and silvery as they grew....
anyways,my guy was around 1.5 inches.
im thinking he was in fact a scomb.
he was just slightly different from the other scombs in the tank.
he was eaten anyways...case closed.
true.Luc;2888544; said:After much study of the juv scombs and armatus, I think I have found the right or key word to describe the diff between the 2:
1)Armatus are more rounded on the head/lips and downwards pointing
2)The hunch on the armatus are nearer to the front
3)The face(tip of snout to gill) of armatus is shorter
4) Lips of scombs are upwards pointing or at least at an angle upwards.
