Identify Red Bellied Pacu from a Red Bellied Piranha

I also wasn't aware that pacu had a double row of teeth. Learn something everyday!! But I always looked toward the lips, jaw region from differentiation. But I've kept them both regularly so it's easy for me to tell at a glance but this is a great thread and informative.

those pics really helped me realize that the pet store sold me one red-belly piranha and 2 red belly pacu (note to self dont buy from Petsmart idiots)... I kept wondering why 2 of them looked more alike and are growing so quick, they are also more aggressive ... The littler one (the piranha) is more docile and is also darker than the other two and has not grown much since i bought him 4 months ago.

the people at petsmart dont know there but from the ground becuz they ask you how mean fish are in a tank and then they tell you if you can buy that fish or not and they do not know what to put them into.

The answer to your question is NO.

Black piranha is a solo species and should be keep in a tank all by itself.
only pygo (rbps, caribes and piraya) can be kept in a shoal.
