i have a red iguana about 1.5' (including tail). i currently have him in a 55 gal tank (i know, i know all bad). i am looking to build an enclosure, i was wondering what size to build it to??

Red Iguana? I have never heard of one. Is it just a red phase of a Green Iguana (Iguana iguana)? Because if thats the case you could have an animal 6 feet long in the end. I had a large male green iguana and I built him a custom cage that was 8'x6'x5'.

i dont know anything about iguanas but theres a guy on here with a cool enclosure that he built for his... with bamboo and stuff... look around the threads he's posted pics before

the red is no different from the green, so i guess its just a phase (i really don't know where the red comes from, but i know the characteristics are the same as the green as far as size diet and attitude). i've heard that they need a habitat that is as long as it is high??

They are one of those species that don't really benefit from pre-made enclosures... ones that are nice and tall are not long enough, and those that are long enough are not tall enough.

While I know the general rule of thumb for lizards' enclosures, I cannot really speak for the iguanas since I don't know how active they are and how much roaming space they need.

I built this one for my Ig. Its the perfect environment, all the perfect temps and lots of room. If you cant get the room you cant get the Ig.

beautiful. got the room whats the habitat size?? i'm glad to see its enclosed. i've heard of many ppl using strong net, but i live in cal, i was kind of worried about keeping the humidity and heat. but in an enclosure like urs u don't really have to worry.

Iguanas do like to get out and explore there surroundings. I let mine out every day for a couple of hours to wander around. But they can get in trouble by climbing curtains and knocking over lamps so you should keep an eye on them. If you live some place warm, you can build an outdoor enclosure for the summer. Just a thought.

i do live in ca, so letting out in the summer would be a possibility, but right now it's only a foot and a half long so trouble might include it dissapering.
