You can root pretty much any android device, and as long as you create a mirror image before you start it's pretty much impossible to brick it. If you screw up while jailbreaking an iPhone then all you have is a ridiculously overpriced paperweight. And I consider being overly simplified to be a disadvantage not a plus, I would rather have the freedom to customize something however I wish.
How can you not fix a bricked iphone? Between the wife and I we have had every iphone and all where jailbroken by me. I bricked two of them (first generation and a 3GS) and restored them no problem.
Anyway I don't care for android. I'll keep my iphone.
