Hmm that's interesting. The only thing keeping me from getting one was the fear my 17'' pleco would kill him.

Thanks,
Art
Art remember it could be the size of the tank................

I had aprox 16-20 plecos in this tank and never had any problems with them harming the rays. I have less in the tank now because I was able to move a lot of them to the 52k in late 2004.

I had a 90lb+ ted tail cat in the 52k who died that year (killed by my 2 foot black shark). The red tail had been eating my plecos in the 52k, so when he passed away I was able to replace plecos in the tank. The 3 redtails in the tank have not taken to eating plecos........yet!

The male ray is now in the 800 as I mentioned earlier and is never bothered by the Rhino pleco in the tank.

I've heard it's mainly hyposotmus species that seem to bother rays, and most other species do fine, in fact are recommended tank mates. BTW, a two foot black shark? wow, that's impressive...

Thanks again,
Art

The big shark Morulius chrysophekadion
I mentioned several times before how he would get on top of fish much larger than himself and suck/chew into their skin. The wounds would eventually weaken the bigger fish and he would die from them just like a human does from torture. Several MFK members suggested killing the shark and even volunteered to do it for me.

But think about it...... He is only doing what comes naturally to him.

The person to blame anytime a fish is killed by another...is me .. and I try and learn from this great hobby and try not to let my stupidity kill again.

He is actually 26" +- and I still have him. He is in jail (a 225 g tank). He gets to go out every summer into a 16' by 8' pond. and then its back to jail. This guy killed my 5'5" arapaima and 3 big red tails. I removed 35,000 to 40,000 gallons out of the tank in 2006 into my biggest pond and my son and son in law went into the tank and caught him after a few hours.

I will try and get a picture of him in a few days. The tank he is in is very low to the ground and when he sees my wheelchair he often moves to the back of the tank and it makes it very hard to see him for a picture.

Dude, what the heck is that red pacu with a black stripe??????
Myleus schomburgki

Sometimes called the black bar red hook.

Got mine from (5)The Fish Place in North Tonawanda NY and (4)Pets Plus in Lockport NY in 1997. They are still doing well and have grown from 2" to 12". The ones with red are males in breeding colour.

Man...that's crazy. I used to have a FW shark/carp that got fairly large before he was beat to death by my gouramis. Several years ago though. Cool fish, if only they weren't so aggressive(he had killed several livebearers before my other fish killed him...).

The only fish in my 52k that the shark is scared of is the Wallago. Only the largest and meanest Goramy could survive in a small tank under 1,000 gallons with him.

I had such a Goramy in the 52k and they respected each other enough that the Goramy was not killed.

This is what my 126 lb arapaima looked like after the shark attacked her. This happened in 2002. The last picture is at the vets office so I could use their scale to weigh the arapaima. She weighed 126 lbs with her head on one side and her tail on the other BOTH TOUCHING THE FLOOR. So we don't really know her true weight.

I took her to a friends farm and he used a backhoe to bury her.

The good news is that the shark is now in the 225 like I told you before. My baby arapaimas are now very close to the first ones size.
