"Growing to the size of the tank" is also called stunting which greatly shortens the fish's life depending on the severity. The body may stop growing but the organs continue to eventually killing the fish.

Irridescent sharks are the one fish I know of that truly shows what stunting is all about. These fish should grow to 4 feet long or bigger. They need large public size aquariums due to their constant swimming. I had one in a 125 gallon and I kept saying that when it got bigger i was going to move it to my 300 gallon. I had it for 2 years and it stopped growing at 12 inches and never got any bigger. I finally moved it to the 300 and it died 3 weeks later and was severely stunted. I would get rid of those sharks now! They will stop growing and die a painful death if you do not find a larger suitable home for them at this moment. Please do the fish a favor and look for a new home now.

thanks!! but whats weird is that the one i had before outlived the average age in the wild, wen i got it it was arround 20 years old!! right now they are only about 6-7 in long so i have some time

That is weird, you must have had very good water quality and nutrition for him. :) I still stand behind my previous post of rehoming them though.
