Iridescent sharks not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Going on for 2 months without food did the I.Ds get sick at all, or any harm done that was permanent?

No it never appeared to lose any weight the whole time. Seem fine as far as swimming around. Just could never see it eat. It may have been even longer the 8 weeks but then one day it went up and took some pellets that collected in a corner.

They need to be moved out of that tank ASAP;
Stress from over-stocking is a very good reason why they wouldn't be eating. You'll need a pond (literally) to house them, and their current size is not a reflection of when you should be upgrading. Please rehome them or find a suitable tank for your fish, as they all become very large..

I saved them from the original owner who had them in a 55 gallon tank. I got them because they were only 8 dollars each. Luckily they're eating and fattening up, but in the summer I'll be transporting them to my friend's pond, and he'll take care of them from there.

Good news. I think they were merely adjusting to the new tank, water, and diet.

Starting out healthy and at a good size, many fish and catfish can fast for up to 4-6 months. The first 2-3 months often show no effect except for a flat tummy, not even concave. By 4-6 months, they surely will look skinnier and skinnier and their immune system will likely get weaker making them more suseptible to deseases. Still, plenty of accounts can be found here and elsewhere that they rebound just fine after such long fasts.

I had a 15-year old IDS that refused to eat any floating pellets for 3 months. Had to buy sinking just for him and he ate.
