My red oscar as had hole in the head for months now. I have been trying to cure it but nothing worked. Now my oscar is just lying down on its side. It is still alive but it seems that it is suffering. I don't want to see my oscar suffer anymore as this is inhumane. I think I will have to euthanize my oscar to end the suffering. :( It has only been 2 years and 1 month. I just wish I could have taken better care of him.:cry::cry::cry::cry:

But him in a bag of water in the freezer. That will be painless for him and a peaceful way to go. Sorry for your loss. That must really suck. I had to do this to a goldfish with severe dropsys once.

Put him to sleep with clove oil (not sure if thats what you use) and then put him in a bag in the freezer.

i think there has already been a thread about this and people said that the freezer way was inhumane and i agree, just use the easy clove oil method its less stress for the fish and for you, anyways sorry for your loss

I prefer severing the spine with a VERY sharp knife. Its fast. - although I do not do it. I have my husband do the dirty work. I've had an Oscar and a Pike who have had to be put down and I am afraid freezing is just too slow. The fastest way to me is to just cut the head off. Just have a really really sharp knife.

Really sorry about your O, its so horrible when we have to watch them suffer and wither away like that. :(

Oscars DO sulk when they are in ill health. HITL will not be the problem. Poor water quality, poor health could also be the factor. For any one putting down a Oscar down, is and will always be the owners fault. Oscar are by far the most hardy fish to keep besides common plecos.
