Jaguar cichlid not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would try live crickets. I haven't had a pellet trained fish ignore live crickets. If live crickets don't do it, try 1 live feeder. If he eats any of those, he's just picky.

Update: I put in a few feeders and the Jag ate them real quick. So should I assume that he’s just picky and there isn’t anything wrong with him?

Yes he become picky. It will probably take a 2-4 week fasting to get him back to eating prepared food.

I would think about, at a minimum, using Prazipro (2 doses), on him at this point to deal with parasites. You might want to thing about levamisole HCL or Frizt-ExcelP to deal with possible round worm infection ( https://kensfish.com/products/fritz-expel-p?_pos=4&_sid=338de3842&_ss=r )

Damn! That’s long, will he be fine without food for such a long period?

He will be fine. I had a 6" pike go 1 month, a little skinny, but she started going after soft pellets, and now takes pellets with gusto, even when I give her silversides or krill. (6 years later she's 12.5" measured and tubby). She's no longer picky because there is a long lag time between feeding (minimum 3 days). I would expect a 9" jag to be able to handle 2-4 weeks of not eating if not longer.
