hi mfk,

I have a pair of jaguar cichlids. They are eating jumbo cichlid sticks, and ghost shrimp as a treat. ( they started eating the 2nd day I got them). I was wondering if I can feed them anything else. I was told they would eat tadpoles, and even crickets? Is this true? I want to give them a variety in their diet. If you know any more food they will accept, let me know. Here is a few pics of them. They are showing breeding behavior. ( esp. the male). He is ready to breed. LOL!! I am doing 25% water changes every other day. I have only had the pair for about 4 days now.

Note: I am not finished with their tank yet. I think their tank looks way to plain. I also need some decoration ideas? The male is prob. 15-16", and the female is easily 11-12".

What do you think about me adding some of the fake bendable vines? I was also considering a large peice of driftwood, or some rockwork. These fish are so big, it is hard to pick out decor. for them. LOL!!

When I had my jag I would use HCG as a base and feed it bloodworms, spirulina enhanced brine shrimp, worms, crickets, the ocasional molly, pinky mise and anything else I could catch in my backyard. I do the same for my GT and FH..

Mine used to love crickets. Id feed them hikari carnivore or bio massivore worms shrimp chopped fish basically anything but feeder fish.

Nice pair you picked up. I feed hikari gold and massivore pellets as their staple food with market prawns/shrimp, large earthworms, mealworms and freshwater fish fillets making up the remainder of the diet.

I feed my Jags cichlid gold, crickets, ants, earthworms, bloodworms, frozen silversides, market shrimp, tadpoles, baby frogs, frozen pinky mice, etc.

I've seen them jump out of the water and snap up moths and flies out of the air. This scared me so I covered the top of the tank so they wouldnt end up on the floor while i was gone.

The key to healthy Jags is a varied diet........dont just feed one or two things, mix it up.
