keeping bull sharks in freshwater?

anyone tried it? i saw on river monsters that bull sharks can live entire lives on fresh or brackish waters. could be good with arapaimas and gator gars.
 
it is true that bullsharks can live in FW but im sure you would need to start of with brackish and ease them off the salt. to take them from salt and dump them in fresh would be a shock
 
Bull sharks are one of he sharks that can be kept in freshwater, however, they need to be of one of the strains from lake nicaruaga. The sharks that are indeginous to the us, such as the ones that are from my area, are not really able to stick with freshwater their whole lives. They also get right grumpy when in freshwater. Also, you have to consider the full size of 8' of this species. I have caught them up to that size, so they do get tht big. For a requiem shark, you need at least 8x the length of the body in length of the aquarium, plus 3x for the width. That means that the tank would need to be at least 64' long by 24' wide. At the minimum. If you want to keep sharks, may I suggest one of the bamboo sharks, alot less manageable for their adult size.
 
Arent bull sharks illegal to own? - I saw that episode of river monsters too... they are breading in FW now...

Bamboos are nice sharks to keep and they resemble nurse sharks when they are adults.
 
Go with a school of bala sharks.

Agreed.

You'd need a way too huge to be private aquarium for a saltwater bullshark.
Even bigger if you were keeping it in fresh.
 
I hope Zoodiver sees this and gives advice before any of you attempt to acclimate the sharks to FW. I just don't think this is a good idea for the sake of owning one.
