Anyone have one? My wife wants an Ipad for Christmas, but the Kindle Fire for $199 vs. the Ipad she would want for probably around $500 sounds pretty tempting. Any thoughts or experience with this product?

Never had one, but one of my buddies on FB said he returned it. Was too buggy and had lots of issues. I've seen a few review vids and sometimes it seems to be not too responsive. Also, I'm not a fan of its UI and the "bookcase" home pages. Verizon is going to have the Motorola Xoom on Black Friday for $199, on contract though. The Samsung Galaxy tabs are also freaking awesome.

And this is another good one, currently on pre-order: http://www.amazon.com/Transformer-T...5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1321977711&sr=1-5

Depends on what she is using it for. If its just for reading and reading alone then the Kindle should be fine but if she wants to use it for other stuff like surfing the web, etc. then go with the ipad IMHO

Thanks. I definitely need to do some research. I just saw a quick comparison between the Kindle Fire and Ipad, and they seemed pretty equal (although I know the comparison is quite bias because it is on Amazon).

The problem is she doesn't read at all...lol. The Fire has a web browser and several apps you can download, so it seemed comparable to the Ipad.

I don't think the Fire is a good comparison to the iPad. You need to use a more capable and powerful tablet to compare it to the iPad, like the Xoom, Galaxy tab, Transformer, etc.

^ NOT equal at all....

A buddy of mine also complained about the forced usage of the cloud and some cords not included.

I knew a much cheaper alternative such as this would be too good to be true. I'll have to do my homework.

I got Vizio tablet for $189(cosco), I'm having problems with it but I think it's me as I've never had this kind of tech before.

Seems the ipads are the best though

I would probably avoid the kindly if i were you, since it was first and foremost designed to be a digital book for people who like to read... so i'm sure even though it may have apps etc available, it probably won't compare to having nearly as much as itunes...

here's a comparision between the nook tablet and kindle fire

Verdict

Though the Kindle Fire won 10 out of 18 rounds, to choose between these two devices, you must look at your priorities. Those who want a device primarily for eBook reading will prefer The Nook Tablet’s larger selection, better eReading software, and sharper screen. Parents who want to give their kids the best interactive storybook experience will also prefer Barnes & Noble’s device. However, if you want to do a lot of movie watching, music listening, communicating, web surfing, or gaming, the Kindle Fire’s superior ecosystem, solid sound, and lower price make it a better value.
