Ryan passed his group of 8x to me a few weeks ago. I moved them to a 90 yesterday with a bunch of orange heads as dithers, which will be removed soon. I absolutely love these unique fish! One pair formed this morning and were defending a piece of driftwood. Fingers crossed :)

They were formally described this year by Kullander: www.mapress.com/zootaxa/2012/f/zt03197p054.pdf

My babies! I miss them, but I know they're in good hands. Hopefully you get an actual spawn as opposed to constant pairing and fighting, which is all they ever did for me.

Thanks :)

I was amazed by their reaction when I moved them yeasterday. They were immediately exploring the tank and looked happy. Not shy or stressed at all.

Feeding them among a group of pigs is going to be challenging though...

Stunning specimens, hands down one of my favorite SA cichlids. They look great and there are defiatly males and females in that group ( I know I have keen eye for the obvious) so with a little time you might get rewarded with a spawn. Mine always spawn after a BIG 75+% water cahnge. With.........now get ready...........warm water! Good luck with they should be way more popular then they are.

There are two groups of four. The older four are from Ken Davis and I think I got them in 2009. There are two males and two females there. The smaller, more yellow-colored ones are from Jeff Rapps.

Thanks for the tip Tom! I'm sure I'll be bugging you soon for more :) What kind of surface do yours prefer?

I think they know who's who. The bigger ones are not paying much attention to the smaller ones.

Big, beefy acaras. I love it. And everyone thinks acaras are just brown and ugly. :swear:

Wait until their eyes turn bright gold and the black mask shows up during courtship. They look amazing that way.
