yeah dude nile perch

It is really strange that Africa is really poor in big freshwater fish, completely in contrast to Asia, South-and North America. Even Europe has (or had) a many native freshwater monsters if you count the anadromous sturgeon species.
There are some big species of catfish, which are related to walking catfish and some large lungfish, but it seems that none of them exceeds maximum lengths of more than 2 m (or more likely 1,7 m or so), furthermore they have both comparably elongated bodies.

It is the Nile Perch. I think the only larger freshwater fish are the Mekong Stingray, the Pima, the Mekong Catfish, and the Silure (Wels) none of which are found in Africa. Well, there's the Bull Shark, but it's not full freshwater...
Arapaima, the US native alligator gar, the sturgeon native to the Hudson River (I don't know what they are called) and many others are easily twice as big as the Nile Perch as well. It's kind of sad that there are no big African freshwater fish.

Why do you feel that it is sad? The continent has a few large fish but it is no big deal really.

LOL 8 years old topic...Anyway, nowadays these question extremely easy with 10 seconds search from google :P

"Google" is the root of 50% of the problems we see in fishkeeping - the same people agreeing to the same bad advice and the same bad ideas................remember the old days when you wanted to learn something and you opened a BOOK???

Yes, BOOKS still exist believe it or not - I try to look for the ones where the Author has an "M.D." or V.M.D." of some type of qualification next to his name and credentials. Any average Joe-Schmoe can put something on GOOGLE

Look up "Google" - it's defined as the highest number and you technically CAN count to it, but just like the internet Google, who the HELL wants to deal with all the nonsense in between????

YA Feel me?
