Leopard Gecko in a 50g Hex Tank Setup Thoughts...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yea proper temps and hydration will keep them from getting impacted
the only way they would get impacted is if they were having digestion problems or dehydrated and they really do like dirt more as they are diggers

If I were you I would get a crested gecko or two... It would get way more use out of that tank and are really awesome.

Same here and with a Crstie you can make good use of all that vertical space that will be unsed with a ground gecko. I have an adult Leopard Gecko in a 20 gallon with a 30" foot print and still think she needs more room. I have had her for 5 years now. But I done have the space to expand yet. That six inches will make a huge difference when use start adding hides.

If your set on leopard geckos I like them too lol. I would do some sort of ramp system and create a couple floors or the rock wall idea is really cool too. Try for a breeding trio :naughty:

I am pretty set on Leopards, but like I said with two levels there should be more than enough space for now. If they ever seem cramped I have the means to upgrade no problem. I just have this tank available now and it should make a plenty good starter tank for one. I'll have an empty 100g in the next 2 weeks with a 6' x 1.5' footprint, I could always make it a Gecko tank. :naughty:

I plan to just get one to start but adding more is always an option in the future.

With a 6ft cage I would go with a beardie. I think you would enjoy that better. Good for you getting plenty of info on these awesome guys before you buy them. You can definatly put more than one in there. i would get 3-4. Get babies all at once if you can so you don't run into aggression problems but anything can happen. Remeber only one male per tank. Females should all get along fine though but not always. I am proof that not all female geckos get along. Provide plenty of hides and sight barriers and i think you will have yourself a gecko paradise.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the input. :)

Once I finish my Plywood pond I'll take a day and get this all setup, I'll post pics as I go. I think I'll do a Rock Wall similar to Vicious_Fish so that may take some time.

Well I finally got one of these guys. It was pretty random, I was at a guys house picking up a 150g tank and after talking he mentioned he breeds them. So I got one from his first ever batch. It's a cross between two different kinds. I need to email him and ask. I forgot. I had gotten most of the stuff needed to keep one anyway. I just need to get some food tomorrow. I guess his aren't to fond of prepared foods. So I am getting some crickets and meal worms. I already got the powder to dust them with. Got him for $20 and I know the exact day he was born. Well I say he, I don't know yet for sure...

very cool!

Edit: Too late.
Those are cool! They look like baby High Yellows. Won't tank maintenence and handling he difficult with a tank that... high?

Thanks but it is just one. ;)

And yea, it would likely be a PITA. I think I am going to switch it out for a 20g long anyway at some point. Then use the 50 for something that climbs perhaps.
