:D I wanted to use house hold items...trash cans...storage bins of all shape and sizes...scrubbies...plastic steping stools. It has been fun...
I bet :) I am gonna be building my sump for my big tank when I get home and I can't decide between a 75 gallon or an all out frankenfilter like pictured above :headbang2

I was going to use a 75 glasscage tank for a filter...but then I cracked a bottom corner before I even got started. Good thing tho because the way the stand got built it wouldn't fit. Only 14" between some 4x4 supports that get in the way. A 55gal would fit but at that point I was just going to build it myself.

This is some early pics of it for this thread. I have more in my build linked in my sig. There is the exact same setup on the left and right side of the stand with the sumps connected. Water from the tank hits a smaller trash can where there will be filter socks. That is sitting on a stepping stool in the sump to get the right height. Then that dumps into the trashcan with the scrubbies. Then pumped back to the tank. The controller does it all...lights temp pumps and has a ton of features....that last graph is 5 days of the temp with the lights coming on and off (800w MH)...probe out of the water...and addition of a heater. :naughty:

Well actually....

when you arrange them in alternating rows there is less chance of water channeling...it remains broke up (Trickling) all the way down allowing for better oxygenation and exposure to the beneficial bacteria...;)

Ahh man you cant have them messy...I mean come on lol I solved the open area problem with some bio balls. I will post pics of my filtration once I get it all finished and the wires tucked :D

Here is another idea for eliminating the open areas...

Yeah thats a good one too...I didnt have enough room to lay them out like that really in the trash cans. And a friend dumped a big ol bag of his bioballs off since he didnt want them anymroe.
