Another face burial. This bichir I’ve had the most ups and downs with from the first day I brought him home. He was attacked by my 2 ornates when I was holding them in quarantine and his right fin was bitten off down to the bloody nub. He was small and tiny and I had a hard time feeding him. Then after I got his left fin to heal he began to eat well when he could although it was tough gettin food to him due to my ornates. Then a few months ago he developed a spinal bend or kink but before that he was exhibiting large increases or growth spurts and surpassed the sizes of both ornates which from the time I got them were 3 inches or more longer than him. Now he’s the biggest and most aggressive and eats well. No other issues other than his spinal kink and eating my demasonis.

Here is lefty again today upon my regular morning demasoni check. He hasn’t been able to eat the 3 remaining ones but I check every morning anyway and I ve made it a priority to feed him as much talapia / haddock/ shrimp as he can eat before lights out.

Sometimes I wonder if they just like to strike and bite for the hell of it regardless of how well fed they are.

Here’s a photo of 3 of the 4 amigos hanging out in a rare dog pile lol. The 2nd ornate is under a stone over hang on the other side of the tank. Rarely I get to capture them all together in one spot except for when they re eating pellets so this was a bonus to see today. Shockingly the albino senegalus at one time was the largest and is now the dwarf of the group. 589762F2-7F0F-4DCA-9AF0-852EB895239E.jpeg3C8037E2-0BDC-4006-B394-9A9463B54397.jpeg
Here in these birds eye view photos you can really see the spinal kink in my endlicheri but also his much larger size.7CE294A8-55FD-4551-8292-9FB5599A5264.jpeg516FCC13-15DC-47AE-AC06-2CAF517DE8EA.jpeg

I purchased him this April when I picked up my 2 ornates thst were already instore and 7-8 inches and he was only about 4-5 inches at most then.

And I agree he is perfect however genetically he’s been a bit screwed over by the farm and now has a spinal kink right behind the head. But despite that he’s actually now the boss of my tank and even my largest red zebra no longer messes with him. I m not good with sizing but I ve got some tank work to do today as I ve had some plants die so I’ll try to get him in front by the glass to measure when I remove them from the drift wood they’re attached too.
