Im starting this thread to give everyone a better idea on what to feed their piranha. I just went to the store to get some frozen smelts. I seen they had frozen clams. So i was wondering if i can feed uncooked clams. I also wanted to know what else everyone else uses...

I use...

Shrimp (people always say market shrimp..no one ever says cooked/uncooked) I use the pink cooked kind i guess...dont know how much of a big deal that is.

Flake Food--your standard kind.. they eat it a lil bit.

Smelts/Silversides

Bloodworms (not now that they are bigger)

Beefheart (sometimes i use this)

I need more ideas. like salmon? haddock? raw clams...other things will be helpful to me as well as other members. thanks guys.

i feed,

hikari food sticks
beefheart once a week
shrimp when i feel like it
guppies when i get mad at them for eating my baby plecos
crappie minnows after i go fishing
earthworms/nightcrawlers after it rains
a mouse, one time.. no more thou

their staple diet: beef heart plus (vitamin enriched), arowana sticks, market shrimp stuffed with cichlid gold, freeze dried krill. As a special treat: goldfish, baby rats, and raw chicken. Pretty much anything meaty will be fine as long as there is not too much fat.

I feed mine, pollock, tilapia, shrimp, mahi mahi, silversides, cichlid gold, and sinking carnivore pellets.

i feed my Lil reds freeze dried bloodworms and shrimp live fish frozen miyse shrimp, krill ,squid, brine shrimp, and tropical (all the previous frozen foods in one )

mine used to get shrimp, fish and scallops, but I've been trying to pellet train it. Right now, it's only getting pellets. I tried pellets and FD krill, but I always found the krill the next day. The pellets seem to be disappearing, but I haven't actually seen it eat any yet.

They get one of each everyday. The catfish and tilpia are cut into 1" pieces.

catfish (frozen fresh)
tilapia (frozen fresh)
shrimp (frozen fresh)

Once in a while I will get them earthworms. I stopped feeding them beefheart completely.

I have 11 and they are all 5.5+", with the largest being almost 7".
