There is definitely significance to the # 8 in Asian or Chinese (not sure which) culture. A lot of the good fish stores down my way are owned by Asians, and you see a lot of #8 around. I asked a guy about it on an arowana for sale for $1888, and he said something about it being good fortune to the fish. He also told me he would not barter because it is disrespectful to the fish to barter over it's life, only fish store ever I have seen not budge on price.

The number 88 in Chinese sounds like you are saying "rich, definitely get rich"
So you guys are right in guessing it has to do with luck...
HAHA those were the days. I remember buying big Channa and Barramundi for like $6-7 a pound.
Not sure if you are messing with me or not, but not all Asians are chinese... I did not ask him where in Asia he was from so I didn't want to generalize, however I do believe he was speaking Mandarin though I could easily be wrong.
