Tried something new today. I wanted to take some pics of Max, but the batteries for my speedlight were dead. I took the pictures anyway with the regular flash. The pictures are crappy because they're not too clear, but they captured his colors perfectly.

And they proceeded to really make me think.

Now I need to figure out how to fire my speedlight from above to get clear shots while avoiding desaturation to get good color like these.

Photography is fun :)

Thanks again xander.

I actually already bought the remote cable based on advice you gave me previously. The issue I'm running into is even with using your firing into a cooler to diffuse the light trick, the flash still tends to be way too powerful and will desaturate the fish, it doesn't capture his correct colors like it does when I fire the flash through the front of the glass. The picture below is, minus the shine, pretty much what I see for colors when I look at him through the glass. I wish I could get sharp pics like I do when I fire the flash from above and accurate color like I do when I fire the flash from in front.

Thanks for the kind words guys. This fish is my pride and joy. :)

Finally figured out how to shoot a good picture of Max tonight. He's really hard to photograph because he hangs out at the bottom of the tank and because he is as twitchy as an epileptic. Got it figured out though. These pics are about 95% accurate to what I see when I'm sitting there looking in the tank. The shiny, glitter scales (forget what we call them) are really there, the reflection in the bottom of the tank is really there. The only artifact that was added by the photography is the slight irridescent green on his back in some of the pictures.

Enjoy!
