Hi there,

I'm from a TV production company and we've been working consistently on a series called Monster Fish. I'm currently doing some research on the wallago and would like to know more about what are the best locations to find these fish, what are the best fishing months for the wallago and what are the chances of our host Dr. Zeb Hogan catching one of these huge fish.

Referring to the post above, I understand that arif_deto you keep one in your garden pond? Could I please have a phone number and email contact would love to speak with you more.

bro, fyi that place he caught the fish is in Bintulu Sarawak... search for google maps and you will know where it is.. :)

Aren't those pics of the Wallago Maculatus? Very different coloration than the leerii, unless I am very badly mistaken.

heres a pic of my leerii.
picked it up a few years ago as a baby (about 6" maybe?) while i was in college in upstate NY. Payed 10 bucks, hehe. The guy ordered 8 and asked for $85 each but they killed each other off; there were 2 left and nobody wanted either of them.
Good news for me!

ALso have a bunch of other pics if anyone is interested (im not a great photographer though, i warn you)
I could be wrong, but it looks to me like what you have is a Wallago leerii and the OP's fish are all Wallago micropogon.

These must not be in the states much.
I've never even seen or heard of one for sale.

Hi Arif,

I am wondering if you do still keep this wallago at home, and if you know of other hobbists in Malaysia who still keep it as pets at home?

I am an assistant producer from Infocus Asia, a production house in Singapore. Infocus is hired by National Geographic to produce the documentary Monster Fish (you probably would have seen this before on the NG Channel).

It is a documentary series that will be aired on the National Geographic channel worldwide.

For the upcoming episode, our Monster Fish special is the Wallago! We will be filming in Malaysia and are looking for hobbists who keep them at home, to film and appear on our documentary.

I was hoping you could help me in this matter. We are hoping to come down early this October.

You can also get me at 94745213, or candice@infocusasia.com

Thanks Arif, and hope to hear from you!

Kindest Regards,
Candice

Thanks for your reply...:D:D

By the way...me my self do keep one specimen at home....but i dont keep it in tank (put it in my water garden pond which is big enough for the fish to grow up..hehee).....

I keep it together with my Redtail GiantGourami, Albino GiantGourami, Sultana barbs, Emperor Snakehead (Channa Marulloides), Tinfoil Barbs and Irridiscent Sharks (Pangasius Sanitwongsei & Pangasius Pangasius).

Hmm to answer your question...YES there are some people who keep them in tanks.....but to find this fish in the local fish shop here in Malaysia...very very DIFFICULT!!

Infact in terms of the JUMBO size it can be...normally its very rare to find people keep it.Only a few aquaria got it....U want one?
