I had what was known as a man eating cat about 2 years ago I got it from a friend of mine who imported 3 but after a lot of research found out it to be a WALLAGO ATTU or Tapa. according to my research it is a fish from India. Adult size reported up to nearly 6-8 FEET! Very aggressive. looks a bit like a Wells cat but has teeth!!!! it could eat you out of house and home got it to 2 ft and was eating every thing had to sell it on. The fishes habits are well documented and human corpses have been recovered from the fishes stomach this is thought to be due to the Indians putting the bodies of the dead in the river it was a truly awesome fish that I wish I had had a bigger tank to house it but the 6 foot it was in was so under gunned for it so is my one the man eating cat or is yours?????

I believe both have been given the name, but I believe the original was the Giant Jau Catfish, as it the myth is passed down by amazonian tribes.. The Wallago Attu likely inhereted the name by someone trying to increase the 'Coolness' Value to owning a Wallagu Attu, a selling tool essentially .. (cough balasharks&dragongobies) The name fits the Wallago Attu, though!
