Was watching that NGEO channel about steroids/testosterone , and it showed this guy that studies cichlids .. was kewl.....
Showed how the males that were not dominate stayed bland in color but the he man fish was colorful .The would take out Arnie and the next dominate male would take over the space, with a fight of course, and then after just a few minutes he would become all colorful . Was a really neat looking fish after he change ...
Buuuuut .. I have three cichlids and they all have color , I definitely have a dominate one, as he wil push the others around somewhat , and he loves to dig. It showed the Arnie fish digging and said thats what they do .. territory ....
So does that mean my other two fish are females or the color thing is only with that same kind .... As all the fish are different, but cichlids. The arnie fish never bothered my new little johannis blue, fact he acted like he liked it... They look very similar but not the same color ... Then I have the yellow lab ....
Thought the part of that show was a bit more fun as he was showing cichlids..
