Comparing Hikari to NLS is like comparing Acura with Mercedes Benz.
Both are good cars but I'd bet that BMW cuts fewer corners while manufacturing their product. If I had the choice, I'd drive MB but from where I stand an Acura looks pretty damn good- at least better than the subway.
Both cars get you from point A to point B just like both foods 'get the job done'.

Yeah, I will take the bet that MB cuts fewer corners than Acura. And how does BMW fit in in your comparison?

Instead of bashing Hikari regarding their products or for not responding to this thread, why not sending them an email and asking the questions directly? Perhaps they aren't even aware that they have a forum here. Perhaps they don't have anyone put in charge of this forum. While at it when you send them an email, tell them they have a forum here and request someone to respond to the threads. They really don't have to put up with anyone of us here. Their products have been selling for years with great popularity all over the world. As a consumer, unless you are consuming the product orally, if you think the ingredients are bad for your fish then don't buy it.

It's like buying dried dog food, most brands number one ingredient is corn and corn is bad for your dog. Go right ahead and demand an explanation from the manufacturers.

Considering you have to pay to be a sponsor I am pretty sure they know it's here. However they likely don't have any employees who have enough spare time to reply to message board posts such as this. I agree it's a shame but it is what it is...

Those of us who feed Hikari will continue to do so and those who don't, won't.

I believe BMW is owned by Merc or vicaversa....

Also I'm not sure if you Dog Food comparison is fair in reference to corn as many Grocery brands have Corn as their first ingredient (and Science Diet) yet what he was asking was what type of starch is in Massivore Corn is well Corn but as said there are many types of starch...Could be Corn Starch.....I'm thinking its Potato starch

got this response in 30 minutes...maybe not what you guys were looking for, but seeing the speed of the response, you can probably get good answers to your questions by emailing customer service.

Benson - thank you for taking the time to contact us and for your concern about the comments made by a competitor who is notorious for spreading lies and half truths to put the product he sells in Canada in a better light. We refuse to respond to such diatribe and prefer to let the products speak for themselves. When you're trying to be something you are not the easiest way is to bad mouth the leader. Does NLS conduct any lab work on fish nutrition or the impact of the ingredients they use in their product, no. Are they involved in any breeding of any type of fish so they can see the impact of their diet on the parent fish and the offspring, no. Do they have a formulation team that actually spends tireless hours verifying the ingredients area meaningful and developing processes to convert those ingredients in to more usable nutrients for the fish, no. I could go on and on, but it's a waste of time. We get a huge number of emails and phone calls monthly from consumers with legitimate questions and answer most of them handled within 24 hours during our work week. We can't take time away from our consumer base to respond to competitors trying to spread hate and discontent. If we wanted to stoop to that level we have plenty of research data on competitive products developed from a science-based perspective and not a marketing angle that we could use to really shine a bright light on some of these inferior products. We're a Japanese company and honor and respect is more important than anything!

LMAO, that was funny.

Takes a personal shot at me, as well as the New Life product line, but can't take the time to answer the question.

BTW - in case the person who answered that question reads this response, you might want to do a little bit of homework before you make statements like that in the future. New Life has been raising, breeding, and selling fish, by the millions, for the past 40 or so odd years.

Their fish farm consists of 120 ponds (approximately 30,000 gal. each), 1500 concrete vats (250gal.-500gal. each) and 1,000 40 gallon fry tanks. If my math is correct, that's over 4 million gallons of water. And that's not counting the several thousand gallons worth of personal marine tanks that the owner maintains, that contain some of the most delicate species of marine fish on the planet, that have all been raised on his products exclusively. <cough-cough>

I have no problem with Hikari, I used your products for many years as well, but if you can't answer what should be a very simple straighforward question - then what are consumers supposed to think? This was an actual question put to me by a local fishkeeper. I told him that I would ask here, and pass on any/all response that I received. Quite frankly, short of a response from Keita Harada himself, (Kyorin's top researcher), I seriously doubt that any of the USA reps would even know the answer.

The bottom line is, this could have all been easily resolved back on page 1, no muss, no fuss. But now suddenly I'm the bad guy?
Yeah, sure, ok.

BTW - if you are truly concerned about your consumer base, the person in the following link also asked a question about your product line, back in April, and still no response.

And unless I'm mistaken, the only reason that Hikari Sales USA is a Japanese company, is because Kyorin Co. Ltd bought you out 4 years ago. :D

Perhaps I'm just a naive Canuck, but when dealing with customers I've always felt that honesty is the best policy.

Cheers!

I love Hikari products! All of my fish love them. When I raise up small fish, I feed them massivour. They bulk up quick and develop excellent color! Here are a few pictures of my fish who were raised on and have a staple diet of Hikari products.
