Not sure. It was in a 56g wide temporary tank with the other longnose, the spotted, the florida and the golden.

None of them were more than an inch or two longer, so attempted cannibalism is out. I am guessing it died of unknown reasons and then one of the other gar somehow wrenched its head off.

Not sure... it should be noted though that I never found the head.

sorry to hear about the longnose...that is really bizarre though as all those gars seemed relatively small. i assume they are all well-fed too, so it is interesting that one of them would be so aggressive so as to be shaking the fish furiously enough to tear off the head. i have not seen behavior like this even with my really large gars (when one did kill another, it just tore up its throat). assuming there are no other fishes in the tank, i would guess it's the Florida/golden/spotted as a longnose of the size you describe just doesn't have the power to do that kind of damage.

i'm sure you'll work out a replacement sometime down the line, and at least you had two, but again, sorry to hear about the LNG--

3 florida gar. 2 are about 10" and one is 5". i have them in a 180 with a lima and tsn about 6". i feed them rosey reds ,guppies and minnows caught from a creek.

michael, can i clean up all the posts that update the Garmy? or do you want it this way?

i think the updates are interesting and it shows the dynamics over time.

what you could do, xander, is just copy the most recent listing and keep it as a pinned topic, this way you can just update that and keep it as a static closed thread, but also keep this one as is in the regular section.

this way the stats only thread is available in the clean numbers version, but the other one still exists with discussion, etc. and we all know no one reads the pinned topics anyway :P --

PS - as much fun as it would be to keep my stats updated, with all my work at the labs those numbers will be fluctuating a decent amount (and therefore Richard's too)...hence no recent updates from me even though i think i have 2-3 added and 4 moved to a new location...
