MFK GARMY - Report Thyne Gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just 1 FLG (Lepisosteus Platyrhincus) about 9-10 inches long. I recently upgraded his home from a 55 to a 199gal tank and his only tankmate right now is a Pleco that's about a foot long. i know most of you guys don't like to feed your gars live food and train them to eat pellets, but I like feeding my Gar live fish and he likes eating them so I feed him minnows and goldfish (flame away if you feel the need). I also plan on getting a few more gars for that tank in the near future.

Well, since you asked for it, the pleco is not a good tankmate for your gar. Your gars life is at risk.

x2. Plecos will sometimes suck the slime off a gar which can lead to an infection. They have been known to do so even if they're well fed.

Also, feeders are fine as long as they're properly quarantined and gut-loaded (fed crushed up pellets), and minnows are definitely preferred over goldfish.

Thanks. Good to know. I didn't know that Plecos and gars were not good tankmates. The prefered tankmate sticky doesn't have any info on that combo. I guess I'll put the Pleco back in the 55gal, although he's a bit too big for it so I may have to figure out something else (my girl's gonna kill me if I bring home another big tank, lol).

Yes I do quarentine my feeders in 10 and 30gal tanks for at least a week, usually 2.

I will get my 2 spotted gar next week! hehe!
