MFK GARMY - Report Thyne Gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I believe they are floridas, but the store received them as shortnose gars and a couple have patterns that I would expect of shortnose. Should become clear as they grow which shouldn't take too long. I had picked up 3 on monday and they were noticably bigger than the 5 I picked up today.

nice! you should post some pics so we can check them out and perhaps assist with ID. interesting thing is that SNGs tend to have some of the fastest early stage growth rates of the genus--

well i would say that's been thoroughly spammed throughout the forum. impressive fishes, excessive advertising--

just got 4 more gars!:headbang2 witch brings my total up to 9 gars now. 8 floridas and 1 shortnose. i will try to get a pic thread/vid thread up in the next few days of all the latest 6 pickups of witch the first 2 gars are already bulking up very fast. they were the size of these last few i got today a week or so ago and they are mutch larger then them now.

I picked up another alligator gar today, so I'm back up to 10 gars!

  • 5x alligator gar
  • 2x longnose gar
  • 1x Cuban gar
  • 1x spotted gar
  • 1x Florida gar
I predict that more gars are in the future for me, too, as well as a much bigger aquarium for the indoor gars!

Nice Ryan. Big gator or small gator? Also how are the gars in the pond?

While I'm at it recently got 2 new floridas.
19x Florida Gar
8x Alligator Gar
6x Cuban Gar
1x Longnose Gar

It's another little one. It's about 4" long and was already on bloodworms, but I'm keeping it on feeders until it gets larger. All of the gars in the pond are doing very well. I don't always get to see them since it's such a large pond (95,000 gallons), but I know that all four are alive and well since I have watched all four (2x alligator gar and 2x longnose gar) swimming in a group at the surface a few times recently. I'll be adding the three smaller alligator gars to that pond once they all get around 18" or so; I'm also hoping to pick up a 14" alligator gar for in the pond off of Craigslist soon, too.

You definitely have a ton of Florida gars! How are all of your gars doing?

For the most part very well. One of the smaller ones I recently picked up managed to damage it's lower jaw. Nothing too serious as it is stll able to catch food as well as the others, unfortunately it doesn't look like it will heal straight and will be offset. Other than that all the others are doing good. The cubans stopped beating each other up and got the larger floridas to start eating pellets again and the Longnose has put on a little length. Kinda surprising considering the age.

-1 for me alligator gar got hungry and ate the smaller florida so now only 2 for me
