MMA News and Notes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
chael sonnen announces his retirement from fighting.

he then thanks and gives credit to one opponent that helped propel him into an mma super star.

back then I didn't like sonnen at first, then he started growing on me and my attitude about him changed because of things like this ^

I used to absolutely hate Sonnen. Now I see the genius in his character. I see how he changed MMA. I'm not sad to see him go as a fighter as long as he still does commentary and the UFC insider shows.

yes

once you realize he's just a troll during fight camp it's not so bad. when he's not promoting a fight he's a gentleman and shows everyone respect. you only see him talk trash when it's someone he wants to fight. and even then he only verbally goes after the ones who have bad blood with him

if not for his mouth no one would care who he was and he wouldn't have landed these commentating gigs

you can't hate on a guy for playing the game and getting paid inside and outside of the cage. plus his wife is hot

Its funny. I used to absolutely hate him. My buddy would talk about him and it would make me so mad. He just rubbed me the wrong way. Then after the 2nd Silva fight, before the Jones fight I watched his antics closely and it just clicked. It like I finally got the joke. Now its like man I would love to just chill and drink an *Adult Beverage* with him.

They also gave Pearson his deserved win bonus which is a nice gesture, and said that they will proceed as if he'd got the W.
It'd be interesting to see or hear how Diego feels about this....

He just made 140k, so he probably doesn't care. He won't move down the rankings, just Pearson will move up I think.

Edit: Responding to, Krich.

Diego made more than Bendo and Khabilov combined on the last card. They also gave Pearson his deserved win bonus which is a nice gesture, and said that they will proceed as if he'd got the W.

it's good of the ufc to do things like that. this isn't the first time they've given someone their win bonus after getting shafted by the judges.

diego makes more because he's earned it being their longer and putting on exciting fights. always going for broke (and winning earlier on in his ufc career) gives you leverage when renegotiating your contract. but he only makes $70k per fight technically. he gets an extra 70k win bonus. if he loses he only makes 70k

and champs always make more money but once they lose the belt they go back to what they were making before they got the belt. that's why ben's back to making $45k to show + $45k to win. but i'm pretty positive when his contract is up he will be making more than 45/45 in his new contract
