Monster carp breaks Massachusetts state record

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats not big for a carp, fish of that size are caught multiple times a year in my area.
world record is 94,twice that size.

Carp are actually managed there also....in America they are treated like crap and many, many people will throw them on the bank to rot or in a trash can. Personally I think they're more of a sport fish than many other "game fish."

I agree with ya there. I belong to a KY forum and thats basically what they do. Year after year I post up big carp, usually grass carp, trying to get people out of that mentality but it doesnt work. I have no idea what idiot(s) started all of this but they are ones that give fishermen a bad name.

I believe that there is one lake in Texas that has a size regulation on the common carp as you can only take one over 30" per day....That said I've seen lot of 20-lbers this spring during sucker runs.

I also heard that European carps are different from our American carps. For example lot of European carp seems very deepbodied compared to our carps in Americas.

In fisheries this is 100% true, Bavaria/Germany for example has the deepest bodied breeds of all carp. But in the wild, there are slender and deep bodied carp, just like in the USA. Haven't seen many american carp though so I can't judge where deep bodied is more common.

You can see here, all of the carp we caught are long and slender for the most part

Actually, a lot of folks do. Its THE place to go if you want to set World Records.

If you catch a World Record Bass, you take it to IGFA, no one else. I only know of one other place called www.fishing-worldrecords.com, its not run anything like IGFA.

Fishing World Records has their largemouth bass as 26lbs 7oz, we all know thats not the World Record. Record is 22lbs 4 oz, TIED.

If you like setting and breaking records, thats where you want to do it, if you dont care about records then I guess you dont care. I have 6 records with them, 1 World and 5 State.

Im guessing the difference between the two, one has rules and one doesnt. They do have some interesting fish under the User Gallery, I like both sites, mainly because one has rules and one basically doesnt and you get to see more giant fish no matter how it was caught.

They've been getting more respect around here every year. 5 years ago anytime someone asked about them on a forum people would basically put them down...now there are threads all the time about guys fishing for them. It's really the flyfishing scene where they are getting recognition.

And I agree with you about the long/slender part....here are a few I've caught and they're about average build...

Those are some nice carp. What sort of fly do you use for the carp? I thought about getting a white fly that floats and try to catch a grass carp, I would use white because it would mimic the white bread I usually use.
