More tank pics, updated

Filters arrived yesterday evening ahead of schedule! Two Aquaclear 100s fit in the narrow slots. Though you have to prime them, getting them to fit in narrower openings is a plus since the motors are outside. Another busy weekend!

Collected all the icky gooey gooky gunk mucky ooze from the holding tanks to seed the filters. This time I cut the poret foam into fat cubes and stuffed them up top. Unfortunately Cash the syno won't be going in right now. I have no idea what the hell happened but he's shredded up pretty good. Strips of skin missing everywhere like he fell in a nest of cats. I've put him in a qt tank with plants, air stones, sponge filter and a log. He came up to greet me almost like "thank you"! Then went into the log. Those hrps must have used him for a chew toy (or target practice).

Taken early this afternoon. The inmates aren't in the asylum yet. More pics on the way.

Update on the 125...it's a lively (and ridiculous) cichlid community tank. Lively because the hrp family is constantly interacting among their numerous caves. Ridiculous because Mongo (aka the Pink Stinker) has been on a rampage chasing his entire family nonstop for three days. He's running around like a wire popped loose in his head, going after everybody randomly in no fixed pattern. Then he puffs like a Meeki, skittering around like a lunatic diving in and out of caves. Today he finally seems to be running out of gas. I'll be installing a couple of wave makers and a bit more vine cover. Times like this I wish I had goldfish.

Brother Slade is now larger than Mongo. They don't get along, never have. Mongo chases him on sight. At first Slade did the chasing when they were re- introduced but it soon flipped. The 'kids' have their own squabbles. These redpoints are worse than the keystone cops with all the juking, chasing and posturing. The tiny ones are instigators at times. They'll peck a tail and the wrong sibling gets run around for it..it's funny asf.

The tank isn't completely chaotic. Corn (severum) is the tank boss, but very laid back. Rocky, my big male acara is neutral but won't put up with Mongo's nonsense. When the pink fool races up to chase him Rocky just blocks him sideways and refuses to move. Mongo did get in a couple of cheap shots clipping the acara on the tail then running ( he circled around to do this). Rocky nailed him for it. So Mongo kind of slams on the brakes when he gets close to the acara.

When Corn gets fed up he'll chase Mongo and break stuff up. All the other hrps then scatter. Mongo is definitely afraid of the severum. The minute Corn turns his way he takes off and dives into a log. A lot of chickens**t aggression going on.

Speck and Mote, the two tiny ones are absurdly small runts, no more than 1 1/4 inches. In comparison their siblings range from 3 to 4 1/2 inches. Stripey, Huey, Hugo and Hulk are the giant outliers (Hulk is in the 225 with mama Pip and other siblings). Around 5 inches and nearly 2 inches tall. Despite their size Huey, Hugo and Stripey get run around by poppa Mongo.

It seems as though 90 percent of Pip and Mongo's fry are male. Most of the large to giant ones have no stripes or minimal washed out stripe pattern. Huey and Hugo look like small blue perch. Stripey and Hulk have the full stripe pattern. Hulk literally looks like a roided out version of his mother.

Pics coming soon of everybody!

Funny you should mention most being male - same happened with my krib spawns. I wonder if it has something to do with the conditions the eggs are laid in.
