Did a bit of tinkering with the main tank last night. There was a large portion of the top column of the tank none of the fish would use much. I figure the more space used the more territory for all. So I added a bit more replacement pothos vine and another vine making a 'bridge' across to the back of the tank under one of the filters. The reaction was interesting. The BP came out of his pot to check it out and patrolled his turf. The Sev swam under and around before darting off. My O cruised up slowly before hitting the brakes. The "eye roll" thing as he stared at the vine bridge. After determining everything was ok he promptly nestled underneath and snoozed for the night. So its had a positive effect. There's minimal fighting now anyway...anyone that wants to fight will have to work for it. Too many sight breaks and places to explore. Fight and you'll run into something. There's enough room to swim and explore but no easy lanes for fighting. Rex (Syno) disappears for stretches now. He's found a cozy spot near Boss' tree (the one the BP peeps out from). Sometimes I'll see his tail flick as he's skimming along the bottom. Territory continues to blur as everyone explores nooks and crannies. The "jungle" and the "glen" are still Boss and Brick primary turf, but the others can swim through and hang out at times. Since Chip is flat he can dart in and out of the tightest places if need be. He turned navy blue again last night, I almost wish he would stay that color...reminds me of midnight sun at dusk. For a so called 'green' severum I haven't seen any green yet!

Will take a couple of pics soon.

Boss (BP) decided not to eat breakfast yesterday and made up for it by eating everything in sight later. Too bad. This is what happens when you get picky. Eat, or wait until I get back from work. A small experiment I did with the pellets didn't work...called myself saving a bit of time during workweek by pre-soaking pellets overnight and putting in fridge. Then I'd warm them up. My fish didn't appreciate it...they made a mess and ate less. Even the severum spat out chunks. So maybe the pellets are less palatable when soaked too long and lose texture/flavor/odor. They acted like I fed them hospital food!

So its back to soaking pellets for 3 minutes, fresh in the bowl. I've started mixing pellets at a time.

OKaaay...

Drama continues with the cichlids. Chip and Boss ganged up on Brick today! No injuries. But it was a one minute fight. We have for your entertainment one Oscar, one Blood Parrot, and one Severum.

Pretty much everything is peaceful 90 percent of the time. But I'm really thinking cichlids aren't wired for 'peace.' They need chaos for fun and excitement. Even for the hell of it.

So Boss is chasing Chip just a little, mostly to get him to move from his grove. Brick is all the way across the tank and sees this. Cocks his eyes and decides to stick his nose in . Shoots across the tank to fight Boss and briefly catches him off guard (Boss is occupied with Chip). They scuffle. Brick is determined to show dominance. Boss fights back. Chip suddenly starts taking cheap shots at Brick and bounces off (like a kid kicking your kneecaps) which Brick pays no attention to. As this 'fight' progresses Brick is forced to the back corner with his big gob open. Boss keeps pushing him down toward the sand. The lockup continues then suddenly they both go flying back. Boss turns for another round but Brick is drifting back to his side, tail down. Chip lurches like he's gonna take on Brick (um, not). But before anything else happens Boss lays into Chip. He's not particularly grateful about being 'helped' against the O. So Chip gets run out, Boss goes back to his 'jungle' spot and Brick sulks in his grotto.

They should name this movie "Fool Fight Night" :screwy:

Will post a pic or two of the vine bridge when the stupidity subsides. I think it already has. I look now and don't see anybody. And Rex (Syno) is getting fat as a sausage...I thought he was gonna explode this morning.

Uh oh. I'm busted, Kong sees me and starts to come out and investigate. If you closely you can see Patch...her tank is next to his on the other wall. They watch each other all the time.

And who says Severums can't peep?

A couple of shots of the new vine bridge. It goes across to the back wall and really adds visual depth. All the fish like gliding through. Brick hovers under it to sleep. Look for a mysterious parrot in the vine pics...he's that blotch of orange!

The fish now use the upper tank more with the additional cover. None of them like completely open space up top.
