My 1000 Gallon Glass Aquarium (1000+ Gallons for Dummies)

78[SUP]o[/SUP]F is fine. I'd prefer the mid-80's. I'm going to set up the glass bead, the UV sterilizer, and the in-line heater when they arrive. I need a lot greater flow rate than the two FX5s are providing.

I didn't want to reply right away since I don't have a lot new to report yet. But since it's been a little over a week, I thought I would let people know where things are at.

I picked the stand up and have it in one of my enclosed trailers. It's big! When I pull it out to move it, I'll be sure to take some pictures. I'm at a bit of a standstill with the tank at the moment waiting for the ground to dry up so I can pour a pad to move my cars between my garage and my shop. It really sucks to be at the mercy of Mother Nature. :(

I set up some of the tank filtration on the pond. The new heater is easily keeping the tank at 82[SUP]o[/SUP]F.

I got more or less my final stocking for the tank in last week...

  • (2)11' WC "Rio Meta" orinocensis
  • (2)"Rio Miriti-Parana" temensis
  • (2)"Rio Ventuari" temensis
  • (3)"undisclosed" temensis
  • (2)melaniae

I lost one of the orinos to velvet a few days after receiving him, which was a real disappointment. I think I'll just stay with the single orino at this point. Fortunately, I had all the new fish quarantined or I would have been in serious trouble if it had gotten into the pond. My final stocking to be updated on the first page of this thread should then be the following...

  • (1) Osteoglossum ferreirai (Black Arowana)
  • (2) C. pinima
  • (2) C. temensis "Rio Ventuari"
  • (2) C. temensis "Rio Miriti-Parana"
  • (2) C. temensis "undisclosed"
  • (1) C. orinocensis "Rio Meta"
  • (2) C. melaniae
  • (2) C. kelberi "Bahia"

We'll see how things go as the fish grow and remove fish if necessary to prevent overcrowding. That's all for now.

We want updates!!!

Well, I finally have something to report. The weather has come around up here, allowing me to move my cars into my shop at last. With those out of the way, I began moving the tanks this weekend. The dovii spawned again last week, so I had to try to move the 230g with about 1/3 of the water still in it. This is the idea I came up with...

I went slow in 4 low and the Cummins just inched along. The fish didn't seem any worse for wear after the event. The male still smashes the glass every time I come close. The smaller tanks and their stand are being dismantled currently. I hope to have a picture of the stand in place by the end of the evening. The builder is scheduled to arrive before the end of the month to build the tank. All of the stock are currently in the pond and doing well at 85[SUP]o[/SUP]F.

I just noticed you can see the stand for the new tank poking out under the lift in the foreground. That's just the corner and it dwarfs the 230g. More pictures later. Gotta go watch the Memorial Cup game between Portland and Halifax. :)

Finally got the stand moved into place tonight. I still need to level it with composite shims, but that will wait until tomorrow. A pic of my son next to the stand...

And again, my son standing next to a 72"X30"X36" 340g tank at the shop back in March. Each 1/4 of my tank is roughly the same footprint. :)
