Wow, all that in 3 weeks! Niice, I see you're gonna try and help out pharoah with his tank too, that's cool. If I ever get a new tank (just lost a deal with linksys) I plan to try a jungle effect too. I'm actually in mammoth right now collecting nice rocks and driftwood. If you could make a step by step process on how to make such an amazing planted tank in such a short amount of time, that would be great.
yes 3 weeks.. i used gamma radiation.. i forgot to mention.
i will help out anyone...PM or make a thread or ask me here like u did..
deal with Linksys? that crappy wireless internet ? i use have one its $h!t..
step by step process eh? Jesus Christ u want my friken secrets!!! lol jk
step 1... read and do research...
step 2 read and do research...
step 3 read and do research...
step 4... well i think u should know what step 4 is after doing all the reading and research
yes don't worry ill help u..
first!!
planted tanks are not that hard as some people make it seem.. especially when u have a little one like me... if ur new to planted tanks i recommend u stay small at first.. then when u have learned and tested what u know.. go big!
to start off u need good lights. i recommend at least 2 watt/g. the light should be between 5500K - 6700K.. i leave it up to u to do the research on this mysterious K i speak of..
next is Co2. if u have a tank over 75 gallons u really require pressurized co2... big $$$. for my 15 gallon i use DIY co2 via ceramic air stone diffusion. i also over dose everyday on Excel.. 2ml everyday 10ml after w/cs
next is substrate, i recommend an iron rich substrate like flourite or onyx or eco-complete.. there's more but u get the point...some plants can only absorb iron via roots/stems in substrate.
next is ferts. if u want a cheap effective method go with dry ferts and EI method.. if u have the money u could go with liquid ferts by seachem... i use liquid ferts and follow EI if u were wondering..
finally plant choice.. i recommend easy low light loving plants like java fern and anubias. there lots of others too..
heres this really helped me maybe it will help u too:

this post is long enough....this is just a little bit of stuff i know.. remember read and research!!
good luck

Wait, what's your plant stock? I plan to do a planted tank with the jungle look too with my new 40, I just need to get a better light, new substrate, and make a c02 diffuser. Do you think 96 watts is enough for a 40g? That's a little more than 2 watts per gallon and you have like 4.5 or something. Also, how often do you perform water changes? I'm thinking something like this is like at least twice a week.
in the tank at the moment there's:
- hygrophila
- java fern
- java moss
- anubias
- amazon sword
- hornwort
- crypts
- duckweed
96 watts sounds good for u!
30-50% once a week w/c
