That would be more impressive if you bent some EMT for the wiring. ;) jk. This is coming along great! Looking forward to see more.

I have been looking at lighting for a while and can’t make up my mind. I really like the idea of LEDs but they are very expensive. I found some cheap ones on ebay I may give a try, but the old saying "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. I really want to make my fish pop as much as possible, but don’t want to break the bank in the process. This tank is already way over budget.

Here is what Im thinking. I'm going to build a hood that hangs from the ceiling. There will be about 12"-16" of space between the hood and top of the tank. It will be a large rectangle about 30" by 6' or so and have all the lighting inside. If I buy the cheap LEDS I was going to just buy 3 2' fixtures and place one over each opening. What I like about the LEDs is I can direct the light down into the tank without flooding light everywhere in the garage. (Link to cheap LED fixture http://www.ebay.com/itm/300802306793 )

Plan B would be to just buy some T5 fixtures and do a similar set up, but I would really like to keep the light in the tank and I'm worried the T5s are not directional enough.

Do you have any suggestions?

Well not to much progress this weekend as I am still waiting for the Pond Armor. I talked to them on Friday and they said they just got some in that day and shipped it out. Im hoping it will be here today.

Here is what I did get done.

These are the aluminum composite panels I talked about earlier. Its a 1/2 rubber material sandwiched between two aluminum sheets.

I used a skill saw to plunge cut the openings and a sawzall to finish the corners. This stuff makes a crazy mess. It took me longer to sweep and clean up than it did to do the cuts....

Here is a picture after I attached them to the stand. I painted the trim yesterday so once I finish it will be trimed out in black.

More to come soon...

Well after two different attempts using Pond Shield, I highly doubt I will ever use this stuff again. It is next to impossible to work with. The part A solution wont even come out of the can. I have to use a stir stick to wedge it out and have broken a bunch just pulling the stuff out, and forget about trying to mix this stuff. I thought that since the first batch was expired by a month that may have been the reason but this is good to go and I cant tell you how frustrated I am......
