yeah...there is very little options when sealing the tank, i have seen some use marine grade fiberglass resin, but be careful that stuff is pretty nasty

Ok so it’s been a couple weeks since my last update.

After using up most of the second batch of pond shield I figured out that heating the part A solution makes it more malleable and easier to work with. If only I could have figured this out in the beginning I would have been completely done with this thing by now. Oh well now I know.

I did another coat of Pond Shield on the bottom panel and covered the inside of the top panel. My original plan was to cover the entire top portion with the pond shield but with the problems I had I didn’t have enough and didn’t want to buy another batch

I was having issues getting the wood to look smooth so I used bondo to flatten all the external surfaces then applied a primer coat to prepare for paint.

After it was primed I put on a few coats of black paint. I’m still deciding if I want to go with a more high gloss look or flat. The paint that is on it right now tends to show up minor imperfections very well so I may do another coat of flat black.

I also found the electrical part I was looking for. If you remember a few weeks ago I talked about wanting to make the stand completely self-contained concerning the electrical. Well I finished wiring it up and installed a male plug into the back of the tank so I can just plug an extension cord into it to power it up. And then there was light!

Here is the driftwood I came across for the tank. They have been submerged for months and I am scrubbing and cleaning them to make sure to get rid of all the loose particles before putting them into the tank. The bucket is for size reference.

I was really hoping to put the glass in yesterday but the bondo and paint process took alittle longer than expected. That coupled with another non-fish related project I started over the weekend, I wasnt able to get it in. If all works like I want it to, the glass will be installed before the week is up.

Well the day has finally arrived. I got the glass installed, and am really starting to get excited about this tank. Its massive...

It was alittle scary with only two people, but the duct tape worked great. Once three sides were on, I was amazed how sturdy it was even before adding the top. After adding the back piece I screwed in the last piece of trim to hold the bottom and then it was time to silicone the top on. Everything went great except it took alittle longer than I planned for and the silicone started setting up before I could smooth out the corners. No big deal though, Ill just clean it up with a razor blade...

Anyways heres the pictures.

Oh and yeah thats me inside the tank trying to clean up the silicone. You can really get a feel for the size of the tank as Im 6'2" 230 lbs and it had now problem fitting me inside....

After all the hard work I've put in so far, its really fullfulling to see it all start coming together

Looks great man! I'm very excited to see someone trying Joeys "glassless bottom" idea... Can't wait to see it up and running.
