Well I tried to get some pics tonight but he went into pout mode when I turned the lights up to see him. But you can see here, he had a split in the fin and how much its healed already

Jexnell Jexnell , Is he normally showing so grey? The dark substrate really changes how he looks. My substrate is light tan and my dominant Hoga shows very pink with faint stripes. The other Hoga shows more red towards the head with more pronounced stripes.

I am adding a couple pics of your Hoga's siblings for reference.

Here is the dominant one, it has a characteristic of having two stripes blend together at the top.

How is the personality? In my tank it was the middle child so it did not try to outrank the dominant Hoga. It was also not a digger. Curious if that is just that fish or Hoga behavior in general since they are more of a river based amph.

First couple days he was showing the red/pink as in your pics. Last couple days he's been the silver with heavy bars.

The first couple days he was out a lot checking out the new tank. Last couple tho he's been running to his "cave" whenever I approach the tank. He has started digging his cave out some more, made it to the bottom glass.

He has shown no aggression towards the tetras or the Apisto.

He did pull the heater away from the glass, so I moved it over so he has a smoother trip back and forth.

I changed the tank a little to give the Apisto a nice hide in the center there. 20200131_121320.jpg

His bash marks, on his head are gone for the most part.

Jexnell Jexnell , How is the hoga doing? Is it developing a personality at all?

Mine are now both separated and neither really have that 'wet pet' quality about them. About as interesting as one of my bichir (logs). Not sure what the deal is but the trio were a lot more interactive even though the two were basically just beat on all the time by the boss. They worked well as a group but as solo hoga, just not a whole lot of anything. Not even going at the other amphs in the tank... which is good but they are a bit boring. Hope you are seeing more out of yours?

Mine is acting much like yours are. When I get close he runs and hides in his pit. To see him do anything I have to hide around the corner in the living room and spy on him.20200203_174844.jpg
Still hasn't bothered any of the other fish.

lol, mine must have heard that I wasnt happy with them. The one in the 300 is now starting to eat a bit more 'normal' and not acting quite as shy. It is still doing well not being aggressive toward the other amphs. The fins are looking much better too. The other Hoga was picking on it a lot and fins always looked ragged. Now its looking good.

Jexnell Jexnell , Did you still have some convicts? Maybe it might be a good idea to put them in with the Hoga. He isnt overly aggressive and the smaller convicts are generally bold and will probably help put him at ease being out and about all the time.

Jexnell Jexnell , Finally seeing a little aggression on the part of the Hoga in the 300. It gives 'chase' to the large Petsmart red devil. Its only happened a couple times around feeding but a bit of growth on the part of the Hoga I guess. I cant believe how timid it is. Really makes me lean toward female now. But at 8" I would have thought it would have went through the motions of breeding if it were female.

The other Hoga in the 75 is also pretty timid, Not seeing a lot of 'wet pet' potential at this point. But as I was looking through old pics of other hogas i noticed that Hulk for instance (Forrest's hoga) was pretty plain even up till 10" and seemed to develop its nuchal hump later on. Im not sure If I want to wait it out but I dont have any plans to rehome any more just yet.

Has yours developed any attitude yet?

Nope still hides when he sees any movement around the tank.

I did discover over the weekend that the lighter your shirt you have on changes the speed of him hiding. Dark shirts he darts to his cave with speed. Lighter shirts he kinda meanders over to his cave.
