My Amphilophus Lyonsi Journal

I say you should do it...i'm biased though. They do look alot like that at this age now that I look at it haha. They are so fun, they aren't afraid of me at all, they eat out of my hand and follow the gravel vac when I clean. The only problem I've had so far is just hte fact that they eat 85% of their food in the water column. So rather than dumping in food I put my hand in the water and just slowly release some which don't get me wrong is fun but takes a while. I keep them warmer water but get really hyper after a cool water change so considering taking down the temp a little, which the firemouths would appreciate anyways.

Lyonsi are growing at an OK rate. I've been battling nitrates but fish are healthy just growing a little slower than I would like. I am a little over two months in at this point and most lyonsi have hit about 2-3 inches. They eat so so so so SO much... I have almost run out of all my foods. They successfully have gone through approx. 10 cubes of bloodworms, 1 bag of bug bites, 1/2 large container of omego one super cichlid, 3/4 bag of northifin veggie, and most of an NLS container. PIGS I TELL YOU PIGS!!
Video coming this afternoon.

All going well. Did a water change yesterday and my two biggest(only 4 inches or so) started circling each other and flared a little but was quite mesmerizing. I'm not sure if it is two males or not but I am not certain if it was aggression or pairing behavior. They didn't mind the other fish and were 100% dialed in on each other swimming around one another for like 10-20 minutes, no lip locking, so quite possibly real young pairing behavior.

If you are not sure how to sex these guys yet, look for a black spot in the dorsal fin. This is the female.

Not my vid, but you can see the difference clearly. See the big black spot in the females dorsal fin.
Now does one of the two that were dancing have a black dot?

They can manipulate their colors pretty well sometimes. At the momeny(just fed)a lot of them had succeeded their lateral black patterns and have brought out more prominent vertical bars while my assumed big male has deep colored fins. Showing great blood red fins and his body is real dark. Shame that I cant take even decent pictures on this phone. I havent posted much on this thread because I feel like I always need pictures and feel bad thsr I cant take good ones but imma suck it up and just type everything out and post video when I can. My pictures can't do these fish justice.

Some tips for picture taking.
1) turn your flash off
2) get it as dark in the room as you can. I normally wait till night time.
3) if your tank lights have different levels of light, turn on the brightest one.
4) take many pictures, normally it's like ten to twenty to get one good one.

Now I am not a photographer but I am sure there are other tips like get a DSLR camera, I just got an S8 so my pics have gotten better, compared to my old phone.
