As with most catfish species, females tend to grow the largest. I sold my female c. apurensis when she reached 18". Two years later it grew to 24" I'm still in touch with her owner to whom I recently sold a giraffe catfish. He's had the apurensis for about 5 years now and it's growth lengthwise has slowed way down by now but she has reached 28" and has attained massive girth along the way! I still have my c. fowleri, a female, for ten years now, she reached 17 1/2" a few years ago and has stopped growing...

I have current pic's of the fowleri and some of the apurensis before she was sold @ 18", don't have any from her current owner who lives far away. I should mention that Viktor and I have tried to get PlanetCatfish to change their Cat-eLog info regarding max. sizes of these two species as we and others disagree with their conclusions, just sayin'.
