All my tanks are heavily planted, but I still run filters... it never occurred to me before not to have a filter, but the more I think about it the more sense it makes as plants prefer ammonia to nitrate. It would be interesting to see how the fish do without the filters, might have to lighten the stocking levels....severum1;1191534; said:I use only plants. I don't have pumps. If you have alot of plants you don't need pumps. Try it and you will see. Obviously if you have more fishes than water the plants aren't going to do the work. For me is the best way to have fishes in good shape and without costs.
The plants i use are the ones that can tolerate low temperatures.

How about some names of plants you've had success with please.

.
For example, in a tank with 300 liters, more or less, i have 1 couple of adults Copadichromis Azureus, 5 almost adults Copadrichromis Borley Red Kadango and, i think, more than 10 Azureus with 3cm from the couple Azureus. I don't have any problems with them. They have fabulous colors. I'm going to take some pictures for you all.King Edward;1191653; said:All my tanks are heavily planted, but I still run filters... it never occurred to me before not to have a filter, but the more I think about it the more sense it makes as plants prefer ammonia to nitrate. I'd also like to know what plants you use and the size of your ponds v stocking levels! I like your setup....
a great idea, do you need artificial lighting or is the greenhouse / sun good enough.Dr Joe;1191638; said:Thanks again for sharing, would love to know your stocking levels for x gallons w/plants only.

I don't use artificial lighting. The sun is enough. No problem. I use polycarbonate. I think that's the name in english.FisHaRNekEd;1198811; said:a great idea, do you need artificial lighting or is the greenhouse / sun good enough.
i suppose if i can run a 20g with 10 1" fish on plants, then 2,000g could house 1,000" of fish, right?
