Nic, I'm sure it will work. Perhaps in August I'll be able to put the Stingray(s) in there. Today I go there and tomorrow i'll put some updates.

i have been doing my own experiment in light of this thread.... i do believe a deep silt bed with the plants would help alot... especially with rays.... but i am concerned about lack of o2 and current.....

btw love the updates i cant get enough of them...

For me it's better to maintain the fishes like this because i only go there at weekends. I have that problem. I don't see the fishes as if they be in one aquarium, but they are more protected and, i think, they feel as if they are in nature. That's why they have that impressive colors that we can't see in aquariums.
i seriously respect your respect for fish
keep up the good work man

Nic, I know Alberto's set up. The fish are healthy as healthy can be....the plants provide o2.

As to current I understand your point, but Albreto has none, and, again, the fish thrive,,,,:)

i dont doubt for one second they thrive.... pictures say a thousand words.... my only question and concern is with stingrays miguel as they thrive in rivers with high current and usually high oxygen levels... i know plants will release o2 and i know they will work as great filters... but rays also release alot more waste than standard cichlids.... im just waiting for the results with rays and im toying with the idea of a few indoor ponds like this with halide lights for some special fish i want and some nice cichlids as well....
