My green house for fish

@Severum,

Stupid question maybe, but why didn't you use black gardenhose, or polyethelene pipe for heating? This heats up much better than your iron tubes(as black plastic absorbs the heat better) propably cheaper and you would get a lot more heat? Due to the larger surface area you will create?

I lived a couple of years in Namibia in the middle of nowhere without power and we coiled about 100 meters of blabk 2" polyethelene pipe in a spiral which lay in the sun on a flat surface. The water was always that scalding hot that if you showered under it you need to add cold water. In the winter not that hot but when the sun shines still warm enough to shower.

Hi Wimmels. A ray lover like me :)

Is not a stupid question. It's a very interesting one.

I've used stainless steel tubes for 3 reasons only.

1st - my greenhouse is made with iron and the heat stored by that iron is impressive. So i assumed that stainless steel tubes would be a good idea.

2nd - durability

3rd - price. The tubes were purchased with a good discount

Only these reasons made me chose.

The idea of using polyethelene pipe is great and much cheaper. And the result should be very similar. Of course, biger the circuit traveled by water, biger the heating. And if my experiment work well, I'll use polyethelene pipe, that you said, to create other heating systems in other tanks.

You might consider using pexal pipe which is used in underfloor heating since it has a very good heat transfer quotient

That's true. I’ve talked to my friend that is house constructor and this tubes were cheaper. That’s why I’ve used them.

Thank you for your input.

And regarding the heating? Is the same thing heating 2ºCx100l or 20ºCx10?

What do you think? Any scientific facts?
