i had a crayfish that escaped. i found it monthes later. it was hard as rock and didnt smell. it was in a fighting stance. i still have it.

looks cool, like to see if you can encase it well eventually. I have tried pickling whole specimens... waiting to see if they last a decent amount of time.

cool. I have done hundreds of fish skulls and skeletons. Actually hundreds from many different species of animals. check out the dead fish thread to see some of my work. If anyone is interested in doing this in a professional manner just contact me and I can help you out. Will be doing up a in depth mount your own fish skeleton thread sometime in the near future. Here's a teaser of a marble catfish skeleton I did, and a rainbow trout.

those are cool
ever inbed one like i plan to do?

Yes, and it's very difficult to do it without getting tons of bubbles in it. I would say if you are going to use clear epoxy or whatever. Best way is to pour a little into the mold to start with. It gives you a shelf. Another note is that skulls tend to float in this situation. My solution is to have some pins ready to keep it pushed into the mold while drying. After the little shelf you make dries prepare a larger solution to fill the rest. I'll post more later I'm getting off work.

this is awesome, and can't wait for your thread.

More suggestions. Coat the skull with the epoxy first this will ensure there are no air bubble directly on the skull to distort the view. If you use a clear container coated with a small amount of vaseline you can see where the air bubbles are and use a siryng(spelling) to suck the air out. fill it with epoxy first then push the epoxy coated skull into the mix, and start to remove bubbles. You got me wanting to try this again. I usually just do traditional mounts. I know for some things there is like a vibrator that will vibrate the liquid and the bubbles will come out the top. There is a product that is sold on the internet that is made specifically for this I will have to look it up and get back to you.
