My Plywood Build 250 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm doing something about the same size soon. I'm going with 2 windows. I dont think they will bow as much and I like the extra support.

Have a great week, more updates as they happen...

Cool. Looking good. I got my glass in yesterday. Just called on my bulk heads they got held up in due to bad weather. Should be here tomorrow

I got a full 12" opening. I figured that it would be enough for mainenance..etc..etc. the edges will be sealed, and not glued so it can be removed if needed. We'll see. this is why I am doing a smaller sized first ply tank.

Think I have decided on my sealant.. Sherwin Williams Macropoxy. It is a potable water epoxy, and it is relatively inexpensive. $115ish for a 2gallon kit covering 260 sqft. And I can get it locally.

Anyone tried it before??

I had no idea it was that cheap. Great price. I don't believe I have used that particular product but I have applied a lot of Sherwin Williams epoxy paint in years past.

It is safe once cured but is a solvent based epoxy paint and has a very strong solvent odor. If you need to seal this tank indoors I would at least consider a different product. If you can wait until warm weather and apply it in an open garage then I think it's a good choice at that price.

Wear the appropriate respirator if you decide to use it.

Is your tank 8x2x2? Depending on top braces and window cutouts, that's 50 sq. ft. of internal tank space to be coated. Does that sound right?

If so applying all two gallons would give you a dry mil thickness of about 44 thousandths of an inch. That's probably overkill for epoxy so if you're considering a plywood sump or anything then you can plan on using some of it for that.

I may call my local SW and see what their price is.

Do you think you might want better access to the tank through the lid?

Could you elaborate on your reasoning?? I have the top this way for a specific reason and if it is gonna be a problem then I need to rethink some ideas..

Thanks,

BTW LOVE your tank. :mwave:
