Hello everyone. So about a week ago, I bought two ropefish from two different shops. One appears completely healthy but the other has several white, patchy lesions on his body. From my understanding, this is fairly common in ropes and it is almost always fatal.

Here are the symptoms of what I now believe is only the first stage of the illness:
  • White sores on the body that appear as if the fish has shed scales. Dark marks appear around the exterior and in the center of these marks. A few black spots on body as well.

From my research, all posts about this disease report that their fish died within 48 hours of symptom onset.

It has been 5 days since these lesions appeared. I have been treating both new fish in a 20g quarantine tank- no medication (since I have no idea what this is). I have been using a VERY slight amount of aquarium salt, turned up the heater and have done 25% water changes daily. Here are my results:

The disease has either progressed to another stage or he has a secondary infection. The patches have slightly receded but he is now covered in small bumps. These are about the size of the ick sores but look like they are under the fish's skin, like pimples (they are not white, they look like a lighter shade of the natural color). I've tried to get a good picture of the "pimples" but they're so small and they're the same color as the fish. My worry is that these are eggs of some kind.

Given the new data on this disease, is there anyone here that can give me advice on my next course of action for treating it?

Would suggest posting a pic. Take a look. Sounds like fungus and now a skin infection. Would suggest api fungus cure and triple sulfa. Cont the salt (1 tsp per gallon).

Ok I did manage to get some pictures. With the additional info, should I still treat as recommended? And for the salt, I've never really used more than a teaspoon in my tank. Should I do it over a period of time? I don't want to shock them.

This is a picture from another forum, my rope's spot has gotten smaller but this is exactly like the initial problem. There are a ton of pictures of this but no one seems to know exactly what it is.

These are the new symptoms (bumps) They're small but they are visible in these pictures.

One more thing to note, he seems totally unbothered by the problem. Still very active and is actually kind of a greedy eater.

Looks much different than I thought. Forget what i mentioned. Would treat with prazipro and cont with salt for another 5 days.

Thank you!

Yeah, I don't think this is a normal aquarium fish disease unfortunately... From what I've found online, when ropes get the white patches they die very quickly. Not sure what to expect if treatment doesn't work, a little scared of what I'm gonna find...

Its a tsp per 20g or 5ml per 20g.
Unfortunately, the only shop in my area that has Prazipro is 2 hours away from me. It's closed now so I'm going to go tomorrow to get it. Fingers crossed he makes it through the night / these critters stay where they are :(
