Mystery ropefish disease, I need advice please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think it's costia but you definitely got me on the right track, I think I have a diagnosis now. I looked up "bichir costia" and the first thread got me to here: https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...es-bleeding-pics-disease-bruise.551781/page-3
I guess this is why we quarantine. Bichir worms... Sounds pretty nasty.
Actually that white spots from the onate you have on the thread that you shared are slim coat loss, if you look at the picture most likely its due to the common pleco in the same than as the ornate, common pleco or some pleco likes to suck on polys slime coat, so i dont think its the same problem your having.

Haha I do respect your input, and it is totally possible that the pleco caused the damage, but there's a link to second thread in the ornate post (https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/worms-on-bichirs.155783/) where someone else's poly had the same problem, but in a bichir-only tank. I'm guessing these critters like to munch on bichirs' slime coats before they make themselves at home.

can you see any worms from your ropefish?
Nope, just a million bumps, seems like there's more every time I see him :( About an hour after adding the prazipro though I noticed he shed a scale and what looked like a worm was attached to it (although, when you're expecting to see something, everything you see looks like that thing). He looks rough, but still alert and active.

If his dropping the the worm when your pit the prazipro then its probably working, white spots wont go away right away cause it looked like it lost some slime coat, maybe add some salt and melafix so the parts that dont have slime wont get infected.

kno4te kno4te can advice more meda than me:)

The white spots like this look like bichir worms at work. If u we’re treating with salt then it’ll partially treat it. Just add the prazipro and one dose is enough but can repeat after 7 days. It’ll treat bichir worms.

Salt will stimulate slime coat production and it’ll be fine.

I'm more worried about the pimple things on him. No white patches on the other one but bumps are on him now too, not as densely though. Not sure if I just didn't notice them before or if they're new. Here's an update pic of patient 0:

Lighting is crap but you can see the bumps better I think.

Is it at all like these spots?IMG_2481.JPG

The bump maybe irritation from the affected areas. It should go down with treatment. Watch and make sure it keeps eating.
