Hi,

I am a newbie...I recently purchased a 105-liter tank and my flowerhorn 5 days back. Everything was good until I noticed white spots on him yesterday. so I did my research and found that he had contracted white spot disease so I ordered Paracidol FW which is a copper-based medication and added 20 ml to my 105 liter tank as per the dosage recommendation and as soon as I added it my Flowerhorn became very sluggish and sank to the bottom and hid himself behind the deco that I had placed in the tank.

He became dull and lost his color and turned pale. I immediately did a 30% water change and he became normal for a bit and then returned back to the way he was before (hiding behind the deco and staying still)

I don't have the Kit to test for water parameters, I am maintaining the tank temp at 31C and have a top filter with Sponge and Ceramic pellets. I am not using activated carbon as I user RO water for the tank. Also, I have a Biochemical sponge and using Microlife S2 10 ml for the last four days for beneficial bacteria growth. do I need to change the water completely or is this a normal behavior when we add medicine

please help me out.

Thanks in advance.

so, and not meaning to offend, the fish and the tank are 5 days old, you got the tank and the fish 5 days ago.

Tank isn’t cycled. Gonna have to do water checks and water changes daily to keep the fish alive if it survives the ich. Get some bacteria in a bottle and a dechlorinator.

Welcome aboard
How long has the aquarium been up and running. Yes s sounds like the FlowerHorn has Ich like your description. It's very crucial to learn how to cycle an aquarium. I suggest you take a sample of the aquarium water to tour lfs to be tested and post the results hear. Btw the FlowerHorn can be treated with salt and increasing the temperature.

Well he has a benificial bacteria. But with no test kit ehhh...
Yes big pouty cichlids can get all butt hurt when you add meds. But I would hazard a guess it's everything combined. Too much on the poor little guy.

I have been using Microlife S2 solution to increase the beneficial bacteria. even with the ICH he was active and had no problem with eating. It is only after I added PARACIDOL - FW he started to hide behind the deco as in the pic that I had uploaded. I am maintaining the temp at 31 Celcius. I did a 30 % water change and he started acting normal for sometime and then returned back to the way he is now. Do I need to do a full water change?

A fish tank needs to be cycled up before receiving fish, this can be done in a number of ways, having seeded media for the filters or sponges being the easiest and quickest way, that is immediate, can use bottled bacteria (I do not be-leave in them) or cycling the tank up for 4 to 6 weeks before adding fish. That being said to intank cycling up you will need to use prime or safe every water change and change the water at least every other day and use a test kit such as API Master fresh water test kit to make sure ammonia is kept low while the tank cycles. you will want to start looking for nitrite after the first 3 weeks and looking for nitrate after that, there is a wright up on the web page on how to cycle a tank.

Seachem prime or safe is all you need, they are the same thing, just ones powder form and much cheaper, that being safe.

I was told by the aquarist from where I purchased him that I need to treat ICH with medication or it would be fatal for him. I did some research and maintaining the tank temp at 31 C constant. The behavior that he is exhibiting is it normal when adding medication. Do I need to do a complete water change for him to return back to normal?
