Though cats can be horrable invasives they do help reduce the population of invasive rodents and birds. In addition to that, they fill the predatory gaps caused by humans. Just a thought, I would still like to see the outdoors restored to a more natural state. More natural predators and less cats.ewurm;812970; said:You should eat the cats too! What a waste! LOL! Seriously, the more non-natives you can remove, the better. Unfortunately, I don't think you will have much effect on breeding populations of non-natives.
That's why you don't get a snake that can reach 15'. People should only buy what they can house for life and they should do heavy research on any animal they intend on buying. I'm a firm believer in biting off only as much as you can chew. That's why you'll never see me with an arapaima, RTC, peacock bass or iridescent shark...I know better, I know that I won't be able to house those fish for their entire lives, at least not in the position I'm currently in. To knowingly get an animal you may not be able to keep for the duration of it's life is unfair to the animal and a threat to any ecosystem it might be released in.Fishes33;872400; said:Sometime its just too hard to find a good home (even if it given away for free) The process is too long and its frustrating.. (eg. who would want a 15ft burmese python...? even the zoo wont take it)
Its even harder to just kill it (you will have feeling with the animal for keeping it so long) you will feel bad about it..
so.. you cant give it away, cant kill it.. what other option? Release it! i know its wrong.. it cant hurt our ecosystem.. but in someway, deep in our heart, you feel better and not like i just killed my friend (the pet)..
That's how i feel about people that released their pet into the wild...
So you release your pet and put all the other fish at risk? Doesn't make sense to me.Fishes33;872400; said:Sometime its just too hard to find a good home (even if it given away for free) The process is too long and its frustrating.. A clarification: I never released any pet animals into the wild.. but thats how I felt for the people who did it...Polypterus;873539; said:You release an animal that can cause unrepairable harm to an entire ecosystem because you would not want to kill a "pet"... All the while you would also recklessly and ignorantly just discard the "pet" like trash anyhow...
Am I missing something here...Is there something that needs clarification???
If the animal is trash to you to "put out" anyhow why not just kill it.
Re: 3) This has been well covered. Any fish in captivity can spread non-native disease to native populations.Fishes33;873669; said:A clarification: I never released any pet animals into the wild.. but thats how I felt for the people who did it...
The following statement is just my thought about how those people think:
***** Examples ***************************************
1) You cant just expect "US" to kill things that they consider trash to us (my old aged mom is just too old, shes a burden or trash to me, I cant afford to send her away, should I kill her too?)
2) I dont want to see the sad puppy face on my fish or whatever that thing is, its been my BEST buddy since it was a baby.. now its just too big for me.. i cant kill it... its just not right.. other fish at risk? who cares.. the strongest survies..
3) "it will destroy our ecosystem!!!" Its just a fish, what can a fish do?
4) Why would a little fish could destroy our ecosystem? when their other things to consider about.. Global Warming!! and and Its not my problem now, its gone, let the government deal with it!
*******************************************************
Go Angry! Go yell! but dont point the finger at me.. just my thought!
RE: 3) Is that mean, for most of the immigrants that came to North America, since they are not native species, we should kick them out, kill them, since they are bad to our ecosystem?ewurm;875095; said:Re: 3) This has been well covered. 4) Just because there are worse problems in the world, you can't discount the smaller ones. If someone steals your car, will you say that it is not a big deal because someone in your town was murdered recently?
